Sa Punta de s'Aliga is a long stretch of fine white sand in Portoscuso's territory, near the hamlet of Paringianu: over two kilometres of beach covered in small dunes and Mediterranean scrub, very lightly visited even at the height of summer. Behind the beach lies the Boi Cerbus lagoon, a wetland protected under regional regulations, home to pink flamingos, gulls, herons and numerous other bird species — flamingos usually arrive from April, splitting their time between this lagoon and nearby ones.
Two sides of the same place
The lagoon side, sheltered and flat, has become a well-regarded, uncrowded kitesurfing spot over the years; the open-sea side, choppier, is the one for a swim or a long walk along the waterline. Birdwatchers will find the lagoon one of the calmest observation points in the Sulcis, no specialist gear needed to spot the flamingos from a distance.
Getting there from Portoscuso
By car: follow the road towards Paringianu, cross the small bridge at the edge of the village and take the signposted turn-off for the beach, on an unpaved but well-maintained road, passable with any car.
Why add it to your itinerary
It's the right spot for anyone looking for a beach different from the "town beach": wilder, quieter, with an ecosystem worth the visit even for just an hour's walk. A good way to close out a day of sea, nature and birdwatching before heading back to Portoscuso for dinner.
Practical tips
- There are no facilities on the beach: bring water, portable shade and everything you need, especially in high season.
- If you kitesurf, the lagoon side suits beginners better; the open-sea side is for those with more experience.
- For birdwatching, bring binoculars: flamingos often keep their distance from the shore.
